Take action for the climate during COP30

The COP30 UN climate negotiations in Brazil will be one of the most crucial climate summits in recent years. Ten years on from the Paris climate agreement, nations must resubmit their climate plans. The summit will be in the heart of the Amazon, home of indigenous peoples and an ecosystem which is essential to planetary health and is highly vulnerable to corporate-fuelled destruction and climate tipping points.
Saturday 15th November is a Global Day of Action. Climate protests will be taking place around the world. In the UK, there will be events in major cities demanding climate justice including in Glasgow, London, Swansea, Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield, Southampton, Brighton and Plymouth. Map of UK events here - and more details below
The UK trade union movement is also launching a Year of Climate Action this autumn. As part of this, there will be workplace and community actions on Friday 14th November ahead of protests on the Saturday. Check out our trade union group website for more information and resources.
Can I get involved on 14th November if I’m not a trade union member? Yes! This is something we can all join in with, even if you’re not a union member or not currently in work - in the same way that in September 2019 there were widespread solidarity actions for school students on climate strike.
COP30 is a vital moment for the climate movement to take action, in solidarity with those in the Global South already losing their livelihoods, homes and lives to climate disasters. We must support their demands for real climate action and essential climate finance - to make polluters pay.
We also need to stand together here in the UK. Climate action is under attack with false claims that the cost of living crisis and job losses are caused by green policies and ‘net zero’.
But the UK is facing increased heatwaves and drought, alongside more extreme floods threatening homes and farmers’ crops. People want policies to address the urgent threat of climate breakdown, and also want the benefits climate action can bring: warm homes and affordable energy bills, better public transport, clean air and green spaces.
We’ll come together on 14th and 15th November to demand strong climate action: investment in the future, in climate jobs and in public services, and an end to the unjust financial system where polluters profit while the poorest bear the cost.
